For many years, we’ve stood alongside the Women’s Refuge, an organization dedicated to providing shelter and support to women who have bravely escaped the shadows of domestic abuse. Through our steadfast collaboration with this noble cause, we’ve been privileged to play a part in helping rebuild lives from the ground up.
Linda, as the Director of AB Clearance Services and an esteemed member of our customer community, stands out as a beacon of compassion and giving. Her remarkable dedication has sparked a wave of generosity that resonates among our staff and customers alike. Appliances, furniture, and essentials that might have otherwise gone unused have found new purpose, transforming the lives of those seeking refuge. Her contributions serve as a testament to the profound impact that one person’s commitment can have on a community in need.
One poignant story stands out – the tale of a lady who, after escaping a harrowing situation, found herself with nothing but courage and her children. With the collective efforts of Linda, Upminster Containers staff, and our community, this lady’s new journey was paved with essentials. A sofa, table and chairs, a bed for her and her children, wardrobes, kitchen appliances, and toys and games consoles illuminated the path ahead. Her gratitude radiated, reflecting the profound impact that collective care can have on lives.
Every Easter and Christmas, our collective spirit springs to life. Our depot transforms into a hub of generosity as we collect Easter eggs and toys, ensuring that the women in the refuge are not only embraced by safety but also by the joy of festivities. Food collections stand as another testament to our commitment, making sure that the basic needs of the women and their children are met with kindness and compassion. During the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown, we conducted substantial food collections to support the refuge in their unprecedented time of need.
Marilyn, our chief contact at the Women’s Refuge attests, “‘I have been assisting the ladies and children in refuge for 12 years now, and I thoroughly enjoy helping source items that make their lives easier. Quite often, these families have to escape in the middle of the night with only a few items they can carry. Leaving everything behind, they struggle to start afresh in a different location.
“Maria has supported me for the past eight or maybe ten years by offering anything she believes would be useful for these families. These gifts can range from washing machines, fridge freezers, and beds to even the smallest essentials like toothbrushes. We now work as a team to find the items our families desperately need. Maria often reaches out to ask if I require a particular item, and I am always grateful because there is always a family in need of Maria’s help.
“Occasionally, storage space becomes a challenge, and Maria generously holds onto items until we can get them to the families who need our support. She has been a truly wonderful friend to me, and I deeply value her assistance in aiding these families who struggle with everyday life that many take for granted.”
