Although it’s fair to say that every month is a busy time for the team here at Upminster Containers, both September and October 2024 turned out to be exceptionally busy!
We’ve always been proud to play a high-profile role in Havering’s thriving business landscape, and the last couple of months in particular have reminded us of the importance of staying active within the local business community.
Here’s a review of three recent events that have enabled us to meet people from the local area. We’re delighted to have been able to take part and share with them how Upminster Containers can help both businesses and charities to thrive.
Our recent busy spell all started with the fabulous Macmillan Coffee Morning we hosted in September, an event which gave us the chance to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support. As many of you will know, it’s an incredible organisation that helps the 3 million people in the UK who are affected by or living with cancer.
We extended invites to people from both the local community as well as further afield, and were delighted to be joined on the day by trading partners, including an Austria-based representative from our partners, Containex.
Also joining us for coffee and a chat were people running other local businesses, some of our customers, industry friends, and family members of the Upminster Containers’ team. We were particularly honoured and delighted that Hornchurch and Upminster MP, Julia Lopez, came to the event, as well as Havering Mayor, Gerry O’Sullivan. Their attendance led to us receiving invites to two more events, more about which below!
The Macmillan event gave everyone a chance to connect and, of course, raise funds for such a great cause. We enjoyed the opportunity to share details of the work we’re doing in the local community with Julia Lopez MP, and she told us more about the various local initiatives she’s driving.
We also appreciated the chance to talk about our business with Mayor O’Sullivan, who was elected to the role in May by members of Havering Council. We particularly wanted to share with him the details of our commitment to sustainability and our goals for supporting Havering’s growth.
When all the cups, mugs and biscuit and cake crumbs had been cleared away, we were delighted to discover that our coffee morning had raised £600. A big thank you to everyone who joined us at the event. You made an important contribution to the incredible work that Macmillan Cancer Support carries out every day.
During the Macmillan Coffee Morning, Ms. Lopez recommended that we attend the Havering Chamber of Commerce Showcase Event in October. It gave us a chance to network with fellow Havering businesses, foster connections with local leaders, share ideas, strengthen community ties and support the growth of other organisations in the area.
It was certainly a very busy and engaging evening, during which we were delighted to get the opportunity to introduce Upminster Containers and the work we do here. We discussed potential opportunities for collaboration with attendees from various sectors including local charities, and focused particularly on exploring ways that our modular building solutions and shipping container services can benefit others in the area.
We left the event feeling highly optimistic about the potential impact our services could have and the broader change that businesses can drive when they unite and support one another to achieve common goals. We’d like to take this opportunity to thank both the Havering Chamber of Commerce for hosting such a valuable event, and Julia Lopez MP for the ongoing support and encouragement she gives to local businesses.
As we’ve already mentioned, we were delighted that Havering’s Mayor, Gerry O’Sullivan, was able to attend our Macmillan Coffee Morning. A few weeks after the event, we were even more delighted to receive a personal invitation from him to attend a networking reception in the Mayor’s Parlour.
This event brought local business leaders, councillors and cabinet members all under the same roof, giving us all a chance to discuss new opportunities and ways we could support the growth of the local community.
We were able to have engaging conversations with several councillors who showed an interest in how our modular building solutions could help various local projects, including vital regeneration initiatives. Mayor O’Sullivan also shared his vision for the future of Havering with attendees, telling us about several initiatives that are designed to drive community growth and boost economic development across Havering.
As Upminster Containers is a business with deep and longstanding local community roots, the opportunity the reception gave us to connect with local leaders was invaluable. We certainly left the event with renewed enthusiasm for how our business can continue to play a vital role in driving and supporting the growth of organisations across Havering.
Thanks again to Mayor O’Sullivan for inviting us to the reception, and thank you also to everyone we had the pleasure of meeting during the day. We are looking forward to building on the connections we made, and to supporting Havering in new and meaningful ways.
